The Mass Effect 3’s beginning and ending had so much wasted potential. In fact, the game as a whole had so much wasted potential. Even the EC DLC did not help much.
And since EAWare (what people call Bioware since they got assimilated by EA) refuses to change the ending and make our choices matter, I am not downloading any more DLC from them that requires payment. I have downloaded free DLC but that is it.
Mass Effect 1 kept me playing, Mass Effect 2 kept me playing, but Mass Effect 3 seems to have really soured my interest. I tried to replay Mass Effect 1 and 2 but I cannot play for long and just lose interest because I start thinking “What is the point? My choices do not matter at the end”.
I used to be so interested in the Mass Effect series and the role playing in the game that I did not read the Naruto magna series or watch my Naruto DVD box sets for a while, long enough to lose track of where I was in the Naruto magna series.
I am thinking of a Naruto and Halo story where one of my favorite characters, Hashirama Senju, ends up helping the Master Chief and others in Halo 1, 2, and 3. And maybe beyond if Halo 4, 5, and 6 are as epic as or even more epic than the first trilogy.
With Halo 4 coming out so soon, I will be deep into Halo 4 and Naruto. Since trying to get the ending changed feels like a waste of time, I am about to just move on to Halo and Naruto and have a lot of fun.
that sums it up quite nicely, and judging by their website they are Completely focusing on multiplayer campaings, trying desperatly to shift focus from the main game all together !
I'd say the PR is true in this case, it HAS provoked a huge reaction just for having a bad ending. Don't get me wrong it wasn't all that good but I have seen far worse, yet ME has a gathering that is able to create a very loud voice.
The issue is not with the facts of the PR statement, but rather with their misleading use of those facts. BioWare is trying to make it look as if the fan reaction is a positive one, to snare unsuspecting players. I actually think the game was good, but from a consumer standpoint I feel their selective use of statistics is beyond the level of dishonesty seen in other advertising campaigns - hence the attempt to get the rest of the statistics out there so that people can make informed purchases.
As a side note, I think the disparity of the professional reviews and the player reviews is astounding, and unlike the other times negative player reviews have occurred on this scale, this time it is due to the gameplay itself, rather than peripheral issues like DRM or external political issues. The disparity clearly highlights the atrocious state of the professional games media, and their lack of professionalism and journalistic integrity.
I agree that how their protray isn't right, but it is techically true. For me such a reaction is a little bit of proof that games are becoming a more 'serious media form. As someone else said, this is the kind of reaction you'd get from George Lucas screwing up the Star Wars series (ever more).
What they have done here doesn't bother me too much, but I might just be numb to the whole 'big company cherrying factd' sort of thing. It's not good that they do this by many means, I agree with you there.
Not just the ending, the story in its entirety was flawed. They didn't explain why Udina went to Cerberus in the game, they ignored the Citadel Defences war asset. They left out a few familar faces, such as Sergeant Gardner(would have been awesome to bring him back with Gabriella and Donelly). Although it understandable that prices go up during periods of war, the fact is that there wasn't enough missions to gain credits for the upgrades. In addition it would have been nice to help Aria retake Omega from Cerberus and have General Petrovsky defect or something along those lines. Irregardless, the story doesn't follow a logical conclusion because they had built a character that could survive anything, that being said they also created scenarios that basically leads the Shepard to being OOC forcing him to make choices that they would never accept.
i think this sums up ME 3's poorly sloopily put together campaign quite well especially the ending but i think we should all grow up and stop scapegoating the ending for every problem with this game. This game has more problems than i want to admit, the ending isn't the only one and it's not right to scapegoat just one thing while ignoring all its other problems.
Though I wish the ending to be fleshed out(I know they plan to add but I mean a lot more) I can not say I dislike it. Though I hope you are in some way heard.
Lots of people will complain saying 62,000 people isn't that big compared to probably 4 million copies sold ... but here's my rebuttal ... there's no central hub that fans go to to complain or provide feedback. There's facebook, twitter, the bioware social site, other social site, word of mouth, and even people who don't use these at all.
So it doesn't reflect the true number of disappointed fans. Even if we consider the possibility that not every happy fans went to go vote, my personal guess is that the dissatisfied fans would still reach 70%+ of the total user base.
At first I was defending Bioware saying that though the ending may be bad, they must have not done it on purpose for some reason ... now we look at advertising like this ... and I'm just not sure anymore ... doesn't help that my hope in the Indoctrination theory have but almost died do to the Pax panel =/
